The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the Laboratory of Chemical, Physical Research & Archaeometry of AMTh, within the framework of the action "Measuring Culture through Archaeometry ", invite you to the lecture titled "Archaeometric research on the Shroud of Turin".
How was the image of the human body imprinted on the linen fabric? Are the marks, which suggest torture and crucifixion, bloodstains or pigments? What is the age of the object based on radiocarbon dating as well as other indirect dating attempts? Has there been a successful modern reconstruction of the object using painting materials? Have traces of burial materials (e.g., oils) been detected on the fabric?

Ioannis Karapanagiotis, Professor, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Department of Chemistry
