Myrtis: Face to face with the past

14 Jan - 13 Mar 2011

The exhibition presents an important inter-disciplinary achievement, the reconstruction of an 11-year old child from antiquity. Archaeologists called her Myrtis, and she lived in 5th c. BC Athens, the "golden era" of Pericles. She was one of the thousands of victims of the terrible plague that hit the city in 430 BC.

After its successful presentation in the New Acropolis Museum, the Goulandri Museum of Natural History and the National Archaeological Museum, Myrtis continued her journey beyond Attica, with the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki as the first stop...

The exhibition was implemented with the generous offer of the orthodontist and assistant professor Manolis I. Papagrigorakis and the University of Athens.
