"…I reported in writing…" TREASURES OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SERVICE HISTORICAL ARCHIVES

30 Jun - 30 Oct 2010

The exhibition presents archival material that covers the important events in the history of the Archaeological Service, like its founding during the first years of the Free Greek State, the protection of antiquities during WWII, the first archaeological conference organised, the founding of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki etc. The exhibition aimed to "revive" the people who wrote the documents, drew the plans and took the pictures, through the narratives of the archival material.

After all, all types of evidence, be they artworks or archives, can be seen as "monuments" of peoples' actions and thoughts, and thus can find their place in the museums, reinforcing the memory of modern society and its link with the past.
