During the Easter the visiting hours are:

  • Good Friday: 12.00-17.00
  • Saturday: 8.30 - 15.30
  • Easter Sunday: CLOSED

The arrival of visitors begins 15 minutes after opening time.

The departure of visitors begins 15 minutes before closing time.

Last entry time: 20 minutes before closing time.

The Museum is closed on:

  • 25 and 26 December
  • 1 January
  • 25 March
  • Easter Sunday
  • 1 May

Groups can visit after confirmation via telephone (Monday to Friday 9:00-11:00).

Ticket price: 

  • From April 1st 2025 to Μay 15th 2025:

    8,00 € (reduced: 4,00 €)

  • From Μay 16th  2025:

    10,00 € (reduced: 5,00 €)

Reductions apply for:

  • Greek citizens and citizens of other EU member states aged over 65 years old, with their I.D. card or passport during the period from October 1st to May 31st of each year.
  • The accompanying parents on educational visits of primary schools.
  • The accompanying teachers on the educational visits of schools and institutions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade of non-EU countries.

The fee for visiting organized archaeological sites, historical sites, monuments and museums and the criteria for exemption are changed in accordance with the Government decision (ΦΕΚ 1968/Β'/29-03-2024).

Free access

Access is free on:

  • the first and the third Sunday of each month between 1 November and 31 March
  • 6 March (Melina Merkouri Memorial Day)
  • 18 April (International Day for Monuments)
  • 18 May (International Museum Day)
  • the last weekend of September (European Cultural Heritage Days)
  • 28 October (National Holiday)

Free access also applies to:

  • Children and young people up to 25 years of age of the EU countries, with their police ID or passport.
  • Children up to 18 years old from non-EU countries, with their passport.
  • Over 25 years of age, students in vocational schools of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area, upon presentation of a certificate of attendance, which will indicate its duration.
  • Accompanying teachers and trainees during educational visits to schools and institutions of primary, secondary and tertiary education in the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area.
  • Participants in the Social Income Solidarity (KEA), by displaying their police ID and proof of entitlement to free entry for participation in the KEA program, for the indicated period of participation in that program.
  • Holders of a greek unemployment card, displaying their police ID and OAED Unemployment Card in force.
  • People with disabilities and their escort (as long as the disability is over 67%), with their proof of disability by the Ministry of Health or a medical report by a public body stating the disability and its percentage.
  • Parents of Greek large families up to the age of 25 of their children, or regardless of the age of children, if they have a disability, with their police ID and polytechnic certificate issued by the Polytechnic Confederation of Greece. IP), in force, as well as an EFKA Disability Certificate. (decision of the Center for Disability Certification - KEPPA).
  • Parents of Greek families of three children up to the age of 25 of the children, or regardless of the age of the children, if they have a disability, with proof of their current police ID and marital status certificate, as well as an EFKA Disability Certificate (decision of the Disability Certification Center - KEPPA).
  • Single Greek parents up to the age of 25 of the children, or regardless of the age of the children, if they have a disability, with proof of their current police ID and marital status certificate, as well as an EFKA Disability Certificate (decision of the Disability Certification Center - KEPPA).
  • Refugees, by displaying a Bulletin of International Protection or a Travel Document for Convention of 28 July 1951 (recognized refugee passport) or a Foreign Travel Document (recognized passport holder) or a Residence Permit.
  • Greek people in their military service, with a demonstration of a Hoplite ID card in force.
  • The Greek Olympians, displaying their ID card and membership card of the Hellenic Olympic Association.
  • Official guests of the Greek State, upon approval by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage.
  • Holders of the special member card of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) or the International Council of Monuments and Sites.
  • Members of societies and associations of Friends of Museums and Archaeological Sites throughout Greece with their membership card.
  • Employees of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Archaeological Receipts Fund, the Museum of Acropolis, the Kanellopoulou Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, the Byzantine and Christian Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the Museum of Byzantine Culture and the Heraclion Archaeological Museum with the with the display of their employee card, in force.
  • Specialist scientists licensed to photograph, study, design or publish antiquities, upon presentation of the relevant permission.
  • The members of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece, with the display of a membership card, in force.
  • Greek tour guides and students of the Tour Guide Schools of the Ministry of Tourism, upon presentation of their student ID.
  • Students of the tour guide schools of the Greek Ministry of Tourism with display of their student identity.
  • Journalists with their professional ID, in force.
  • Owners of free access cards (see relevant Government Gazette)
  • Members of the Association of Greek Art Historians (EEIT), with the display of a membership card, in force.
