The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki Region, the Association of Homogeneous Greeks from Constantinople in Northern Greece, and the Cultural Association of Makrochori - Istanbul "the Seventh of Byzantium," is co-organizing an event dedicated to the archaeologist Theodoros Makridis (Macridy bey).

On Thursday, November 7, Maria Sarantidou, an architect with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki City, will present the Macedonian tomb of "Makridy Bey," a splendid example of funerary architecture in ancient Macedonia dating to the late 4th century BC. The monument was excavated in 1910 in then Ottoman-controlled Macedonia by the Istanbul-born archaeologist Theodoros Makridis (1872-1940), who held the high administrative title of "bey" in the Ottoman Empire.

Ms. Sarantidou’s lecture will focus on the biography of Theodoros Makridis, his archaeological work, and his contributions to the development of archaeology in the late Ottoman Empire and the historiography of archaeology.

On Friday, November 8, at 12:00 PM, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki Region will conduct a tour of the "Makridy Bey" tomb. Transportation to the site will be by private means.
