The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki participates in the European Heritage Days 2024
The European Heritage Days, under the auspices of the Council of Europe since 1985 and with the participation of the European Union since 1999, are one of the most significant participatory cultural events in Europe, taking place every September with the involvement of 50 countries that have signed the European Cultural Convention.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness among European citizens about Europe's rich and diverse cultural heritage, to combat racism and xenophobia, and to promote greater tolerance both within Europe and beyond its borders. It also seeks to inform the public and authorities about the need to protect cultural heritage against new threats and to urge Europe to respond to the social, political, and economic challenges it faces.
Greece has been participating in the European Heritage Days celebrations since 1996, with the Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions, and Educational Programs of the Ministry of Culture and Sports as the national coordinator of the programme.
As part of the 2024 European Heritage Days celebration, with the central theme "Heritage of Routes, Networks, and Connections" the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki has planned the following activities:
- 27.09.24 / 12:30 - 18:30: Seminar "Feeling the Water: Exploring the Senses through Water"
- 28 & 29.09.24 / 18:00 – 19:00: Storytelling of Ancient Myths: "Dionysus, the Wandering God of Joy!"
- 29.09.24 / 09:00 - 17:00: Performance by Anna Pangalou
On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of September the Museum’s entry will be free.
