Physico-chemical study of Macedonian gold wreaths

The A.M.Th. exhibits and safeguards a large number of Macedonian gold wreaths.

They were personal items of members of the Macedonian aristocracy, found in burials.

Through a non-destructive analytical technique, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, the composition of ancient alloys is examined and a database is organised with analytical information on Macedonian metalworking.

This particular analysis programme is part of a wider programme of physico-chemical analyses on the Museum's gold artefacts.
